Welcome back to Part Three of this series on choosing your Catholic wedding music! In the previous posts, we explored the essential musical selections for your Catholic Wedding Mass. Today, we’re looking beyond the required parts of the liturgy and exploring the beautiful traditions that can make your wedding Mass even more meaningful while keeping Christ at the center of your celebration.
Music has an incredible ability to lift our hearts and minds to God. The songs you choose become more than background music—they become prayers that help your guests enter more deeply into the sacred mystery unfolding before them.
Your Catholic Wedding Is Already Unique
There are countless ways to personalize your Catholic wedding, but before we begin, I want to pause and talk about something I hear from couples all the time:
“We want our wedding to be unique.”
That is a beautiful desire.
In fact, it is rooted in a profound truth: you are a unique creation of the love and mind of God. Your future spouse is equally unique. Your love story has never existed before and never will again. Your wedding day will naturally reflect that.
Because of this, I encourage couples not to feel pressured by trends or expectations. Your wedding does not need to be filled with elaborate traditions simply because everyone else is doing them.
As I tell all of my couples:
“You can do as much or as little as you would like.”
That doesn’t mean every decision is equally helpful, however.
If creating a “perfect” wedding leaves you and your fiancé exhausted, anxious, and burned out, you’ve probably taken on too much.
Your wedding day is about something infinitely greater than perfectly executed details.
It is the day God performs one of His greatest miracles, joining a man and woman together as one flesh. You are entering a vocation designed to lead one another to Heaven.
Everything else should simply support that reality.
One of the Most Beautiful Ways to Elevate Your Wedding Mass
One of the easiest—and most meaningful—ways to create a memorable experience is through intentional music.
Choose music that:
- Reflects your faith
- Tells your story
- Draws hearts toward Christ
- Creates moments of prayer and reverence
Then think beyond what will be sung.
Who will sing it?
Do you have a family member with a beautiful voice? A close friend who plays the violin or organ? A parish choir that loves sacred music?
Inviting loved ones to participate can become one of the most meaningful gifts of your wedding day.
And remember—you don’t have to do any of this.
A simple, reverent Catholic Wedding Mass glorifies God just as beautifully as one with every possible tradition.
Sometimes simplicity leaves the deepest impact.
Honoring Our Blessed Mother During Your Wedding Mass
One of the most beloved Catholic wedding traditions is presenting flowers to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
This beautiful act entrusts your marriage to the Mother of Christ, asking her to guide your family toward truth, goodness, beauty, and ultimately, holiness.
Traditionally, the bride and groom bring a separate bouquet to a Marian shrine or statue within the church while a Marian hymn is sung.
Depending on your parish, this can take place:
- After Holy Communion
- Before the Final Blessing
- Occasionally near the beginning of Mass
After placing the flowers before Our Lady, the couple usually offers a brief prayer before returning to their places.
Choosing a Marian Hymn
One important consideration is length.
If you’re selecting a congregational hymn like Hail, Holy Queen or Immaculate Mary, consider singing only one or two verses.
Here are some beautiful Marian hymns for a Catholic wedding to consider with the links to the music:
Regina Caeli – Good option if getting married in the Easter Season.
Salve Regina – This is a different intonation, but also beautiful. This is a version often sung in monastaries.
On this Day, O Beautiful Mother
Bring Flowers of the Rarest – a good option for an Irish touch.
Mary of Graces – another option with Irish/Gaelic roots.
Ave Maria Angelus Domini (Brier)
There are countless beautiful options, but this is an excellent place to begin.
Honoring St. Joseph During Your Wedding Mass
Did you know you can also honor St. Joseph during your wedding?
As the protector of the Holy Family and patron of fathers, workers, and the Universal Church, St. Joseph is a powerful intercessor for every Catholic marriage.
Some couples choose to place flowers before a statue of St. Joseph, asking for his guidance, protection, and fatherly care over their future family.

Keep the Main Thing the Main Thing
There are many beautiful ways to enrich your Catholic Wedding Mass, but never feel obligated to include every tradition.
The most beautiful weddings are not necessarily the most elaborate.
They are the ones that keep Christ at the center.
Whether your wedding includes a full choir, Gregorian chant, one cantor, or simply your parish organist, what matters most is that your music helps everyone present worship God and celebrate the sacrament taking place before them.
