Gentlemen, I’m going to take a moment and talk directly to you.
You want to propose. You want to make it meaningful, beautiful, and completely unique to your relationship. And, of course, you want to capture it so you can remember this moment for the rest of your lives.
But maybe you don’t know where to start.
Maybe you have a general idea of what you want, but you’re struggling to turn that idea into an actual proposal plan. Or perhaps you already have a brilliant plan lined up and ready to go—you just need an equally brilliant photographer to capture the moment when you make the promise of eternity.
That’s where I come in.

Why Hire a Proposal Photographer?
You might be wondering, Why should I even hire a photographer? Wouldn’t my Aunt Emma with an iPhone be good enough?
And honestly, Aunt Emma might do a wonderful job capturing the moment in real time. But there is a difference between simply taking a picture and intentionally documenting the emotion, beauty, and art of one of the most important moments in your love story.
Your proposal deserves more than a few quick snapshots.
Hiring a professional proposal photographer is an investment in your story. The right photographer will not only capture the moment you get down on one knee, but the anticipation beforehand, the look on her face when she realizes what is happening, the joy afterward, and all of those little in-between moments that you may not even notice in the excitement of the day.
Those photographs become more than documentation.
They become part of the story you will tell for years to come.

Start With a Plan
The most important part of planning a proposal is making it personal.
Most likely, you already have an idea of what you would like to do. Maybe you want to return to the location of your first date. Maybe there is a favorite restaurant, hiking trail, park, concert venue, or vacation destination that means something to both of you.
Start there.
Your proposal doesn’t need to look like anyone else’s. In fact, it shouldn’t.
The best proposals are the ones that feel unmistakably you.
Think about the things that have shaped your relationship and create space for those things to become part of the proposal. The goal isn’t to create the most elaborate proposal imaginable. The goal is to create a moment that tells the truth about your love.

How to Incorporate Your Catholic Faith Into Your Proposal
If your faith is an important part of your relationship, why not allow it to be part of the beginning of your engagement?
There are so many beautiful and simple ways to incorporate your Catholic faith into a proposal.
You could propose after praying the Rosary together or spending time in Adoration. With the proper permission and planning, you could even potentially propose during Adoration.
How beautiful would it be to begin this new season of your life together while basking in the presence of the Eucharist?
Another beautiful option is to ask your priest to offer a blessing for your engagement. You could even consider a betrothal ceremony, depending on your circumstances and what your priest recommends.
Your engagement is not simply the period of time between dating and marriage. It is a season of preparation for your vocation.
Beginning that season in prayer is a beautiful way to remind yourselves that your relationship has never been yours alone. You are inviting Christ into the center of your life together from the very beginning.

Make Your Proposal Uniquely Yours
Your faith isn’t the only thing that can make your proposal personal.
Think about the things you already love doing together.
Do you share a love of hiking? Plan a proposal somewhere beautiful along your favorite trail.
Are you foodies? Incorporate your favorite restaurant or a meal you’ve shared together.
Are you both passionate about a particular sports team, movie, band, or hobby?
Make room for it.
If something is important enough to be a part of your life together, it is worth considering whether it should be part of your proposal.
And, if it is part of your story, it is worth documenting.

Hire a Professional to Capture the Moment
This is the part that I believe is just as important as the proposal itself.
Asking a professional photographer to document your proposal is prudence at its finest.
A good proposal photographer knows how to remain unseen while anticipating the moment. They know where to stand, how to work with the light, how to capture the details, and—most importantly—how to photograph the emotion of what is happening.
Because you aren’t simply proposing.
You are asking the woman you love to begin preparing for a lifetime with you.
You are standing at the beginning of a vocation.
You are making a promise that will eventually lead you to the altar.
That deserves to be remembered beautifully.
And when you look back at your proposal years from now, I want your photographs to bring you back to exactly how you felt in that moment—not simply remind you of what happened.

Planning a Catholic Proposal?
If you’re looking for a Catholic proposal photographer in Ohio, I would love to help you plan and capture this incredible moment.
Whether you already have every detail planned or you have absolutely no idea where to begin, we can work together to create a proposal that feels personal, intentional, beautiful, and true to your relationship.
I am currently booking Winter proposals throughout Ohio and beyond, and proposal photography can also be incorporated into your wedding photography package.
Because your wedding story doesn’t begin on the day you walk down the aisle.
It begins here—with the question, the promise, and the beginning of your journey toward the altar.
And I would be honored to help you remember it.
Love always,
Joanie
